Wärtsilä has secured an order from a European ship owner and operator to deliver hybrid scrubber systems to clean the exhaust emissions from three 2500teu container vessels.
Under the contract, installation of the solution will be performed at the Jinhai Heavy Industry in China.
Wärtsilä Ship Power Exhaust Gas Cleaning director Sigurd Jenssen said: "The ships will be operating at times in harsh climatic conditions and Wärtsilä has considerable experience in developing scrubber systems technology for use in challenging marine environments.
"The system is optimised to give the necessary flexibility in relation to the ships’ operations, with special emphasis given to minimising the operational costs."
Delivery of the scrubber systems is expected to be in December 2015.
Wärtsilä’s scrubber solution will include two scrubber units and it will be equipped on the vessels to clean the exhaust from both the main and auxiliary engines.
The system, which will deliver a total of 28MW power output, will be capable of cleaning the sulphur oxide (SOx) and particulates from the exhaust gas.
Moreover, the hybrid scrubbers will enable the operator to use either closed or open-loop technology to remove SOx from the exhaust.
Under this contract, the firm will also offer engineering and consulting support during the installation, along with ongoing technical support throughout the vessels’ lifecycle.
In May, Dutch ship owner and operator Royal Wagenborg selected Wärtsilä to deliver scrubber systems for its RoRo carriers.
Royal Wagenborg will use Wärtsilä scrubbers to clean the exhaust emissions from its vessels, including the Balticborg and Bothniaborg.
