Finnish manufacturer Wärtsilä has won a contract from China Oilfield Services (COSL) to design six new vessels.

Under the deal, the Finnish manufacturer will design two platform supply vessels (PSVs) and four anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels, which will be deployed to support COSL operations in the South China Sea and Bohai Bay.

The PSV pair will be built based on Wärtsilä’s VS 485 PSV MKIII design, which provides an environmentally efficient vessel with an optimised hull design and reduced airborne emissions.

All four AHTS vessels will be built to the Wärtsilä Ship Design VS 4612 AHTS design and will be mainly used to set anchors for drilling rigs and tow mobile drilling rigs from one location to another.

The company plans to employ the vessels in extremely challenging sea and weather conditions.

Wärtsilä said that its offering comprises standard designs, often with a full equipment package, and advanced, customised designs based upon client integrated project development.

The VS 485 PSV MKIII design vessel will have a length of 85.40m, beam of 20m, depth of 8.60m and deck of 1,000m².

A vessel based on Wärtsilä’s VS 4612 AHTS design will be 74.10m long, with a beam of 18.00m, depth of 7.50m, deck of 560m² and BP of about 145t.
