Wärtsilä will deliver main propulsion and control equipment for two new 78m purser / trawler fishing vessels, which are being designed and constructed at the Karstensen Shipyard in Denmark.
Contracted by Scotland-based fishing company Lunar Fishing, the new-build vessels will be operated in the North Sea.
Under the contract, Wärtsilä will provide a nine cylinder in-line Wärtsilä 32 engine, a two-speed gear with power take-off function (PTO), a Wärtsilä controllable pitch propeller 4E1095 complete with shaft line, seals and bearings, and stern tube, as well as a high performance nozzle (HP-Nozzle), for each vessel.
In addition, the company will also supply the new Wärtsilä Protouch propulsion control system.
Lunar Fishing skipper and vessel owner Alex Buchan said: "These vessels will represent the state-of-art for fishing applications. The excellent fuel efficiency and operational flexibility that is made possible by the integrated Wärtsilä propulsion system will produce fuel cost savings and greater operating efficiency."
The Wärtsilä 32 engine combines an output power of 580kW per cylinder with better fuel efficiency.

By GlobalDataThe combination of the engine with the two-speed gear solution provides operating cost savings and high overall propulsion efficiency.
Lunar Fishing has selected the SCV 112 / 2 gear, the largest in Wärtsilä’s two-speed gear portfolio, for its vessels, the company said.
It offers two-gear ratio settings that allow a reduced propeller speed at an optimal and constant engine speed.
This process will enable the electric power generation for the PTO on the gear to remain uninterrupted in both trawling and transit modes.
The Protouch propulsion control system provides smooth operation and effortless integration with other systems.
