The Century inshore container vessel has an overall length of 110m and an overall beam of 11.4m.
The Century can carry 208 20ft containers and is even designed to sail with coupled barges.
The Century’s power is provided by a pair of flexibly-mounted Cummins KTA 50 M2 main engines, each with an output of 1,193kW at 1,800rpm.
The main engines are connected to Reintjes WAF663 gearboxes, exhibiting a reduction ratio of 5.458:1, transmitting to two 1,750mm diameter fixed pitch propellers by means of a 175mm Sepers shaft.
The Century is equipped with a SD1300 bow thruster unit manufactured by Van Wijk of Werkendam powered by a 511kW.Cummins KTA19-G3 engine.
The navaids package contains Furuno RHRS2005RC colour radars, a Radio Zeeland Sigma 130 wind-speed meter, a Radio Zeeland Sigma 550 autopilot and a Radio Zeeland Sigma 120 echosounder.

The Dutch shipyard, K Damen, has fabricated an inland waterways container vessel for Ruytenboer of Werkendam. Called the Century, the vessel can carry 208 20ft containers and is even designed to sail with coupled barges.

The overall length of the Century is 110m and it has an overall beam of 11.4m. The vessel has a depth of 3.68m, a draft of only 3.4m and registers 3,055t (at 3.4m draught). The loading of the cargo is assisted by Sygo loading and height meters. To move the cargo around the deck, there is a van Wijk car crane with a single lift weight of 2,000kg at an outreach of 18.4m.

ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES

At the stern of the vessel is the accommodation and wheelhouse. The height of the wheelhouse is variable and can be raised by means of a hydraulic column. The accommodation units are fully air-conditioned and the spaces have been divided into two main areas. The area on the foredeck is designed for use by the ship’s crew while the area on the aft deck is the domain of the vessel’s owner.

The accommodation facilities consist of bedrooms, washrooms and a combined living / galley space. To minimise vibration, the accommodation units have been mounted on rudder shock absorbers.

ENGINE ROOM

The vessel’s power is provided by a pair of flexibly-mounted Cummins KTA 50 M2 main engines. Each engine has an output of 1,193kW at 1,800rpm. The Century’s auxiliary power system is based on two Cummins type 4BT3.9-G4 diesel driven generator sets, connected to Stamford type UDC224-G15 generators. These have a capacity of 64kVA.

The main engines are connected to Reintjes WAF663 gearboxes, exhibiting a reduction ratio of 5.458:1. From there, the engine power is transmitted to two 1,750mm diameter fixed pitch propellers by means of a 175mm Sepers shaft

This affords the vessel a service speed of approximately 15.35km/h.

Steering the vessel is enabled is by means of four hydrodynamic double-plated rudders which are operated by Van der Velden steering gear.

In order to manoeuvre the vessel when coming into port, the Century is equipped with a SD1300 bow thruster unit manufactured by Van Wijk of Werkendam. The bow thruster is powered by a 511kW.Cummins KTA19-G3 engine. For safety, the engine room and bowthruster room are fitted with a Novec 1230 fire-fighting system based on fixed CO2 flooding.

In order to anchor the vessel, the Century is equipped with two 1,825kg anchors, each fitted with U2 quality chain cable. They are deployed by two Menarom winches.

BRIDGE EQUIPMENT

The bridge contains a variety of the latest navigational aids. The navaids package has been supplied and installed by Werkina. Amongst the instruments it contains are Furuno RHRS2005RC colour radars, a Radio Zeeland Sigma 130 wind-speed meter, a Radio Zeeland Sigma 550 autopilot and a Radio Zeeland Sigma 120 echosounder.

It has two rate-of-turn indicators; a Radio Zeeland Sigma 100 and a Radio Zeeland Sigma 300 as well as a Radio Zeeland Sigma 700 intercom. There is also a digital antenna system.

In addition, there are two type 2048 Sailor VHFs, an Orlaco camera system and two Orlaco zoom-cameras, all with monitors.

The vessel complies with the requirements of the Netherlands Shipping Inspectorate (NSI) and ADNR.
