Offshore Ship Designers (OSD) has unveiled its powerful, low-emission compact e-tug, adding to its Azistern series of vessels.
The hybrid power Azistern-e tug, which has an overall length of 22m and weighs 50t, is powered by two 970kW variable speed gensets and is supported by two 400kWh lithium battery packs.

OSD managing director Michiel Wijsmulle said: "The Azistern-e has the typical low resistance stable hull and all-round visibility that is associated with all Azistern designs.
"What makes this particular Azistern tug different is that it is driven by a revolutionary podded drive and that it has a flexible and green electro / diesel-electric configuration."
The low-emission tug is compliant with IMO Tier 3 requirements, and is equipped with an after-treatment system suitable for emission control areas (ECA) with a new energy management system.
Structurally uniform and loaded optimally, the propulsion system facilitates low maintenance and fuel costs with a reduction in emissions.

By GlobalDataThe tug is highly manoeuvrable and its power train has a short reaction time. The batteries serve as a booster to achieve maximum bollard within a short span of time.
The small sized engines and the shaftless configuration relieves more space below deck while providing optimum flexibility in respect of the division of space and piping.
The podded drive and the double elastic mounting of its gensets allows the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) compliant vessel to ensure the highest comfort level for its four-man crew.
