Netherlands-based Vroon Offshore Services has awarded a contract to Cosco Shipyard for two additional platform supply vessels (PSV) of Ulstein PX121 design.

Cosco has entered into an agreement with Ulstein for ship design, power and control equipment, as well as on-site follow-up services to cater to the latest contract.

The latest order brings the total number of vessels in this series to six, which are slated for delivery in 2015 and deployment for operation in European waters. The first of Vroon’s six PSVs was launched on 30 June.

Each vessel will have a class-II dynamic positioning system and will comply with the ABS-class ‘clean design’ requirements.

The 83.4m-long vessels will also have a beam of 18m, a rectangular cargo deck of 830m² and a load capacity of 4,200t.

Ulstein design and solutions managing director Sigurd Viseth said: “The PX121 design is becoming increasingly attractive to oil companies as it offers a competitive combination of fuel-efficiency and cargo capacities / deadweight.”

“This translates to a performance level that is usually expected from larger PSVs, but at a medium-sized PSV cost; delivering excellent value-for-money for the owner and operator.”

The vessel comprises tanks for flammable liquids or corrosive chemicals, oil, water and drilling fluids.

In addition, it features Ulstein X-BOW hull line design, which is said to offer efficiency over a wide draught range.
