Independent owner of liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels Teekay Shipping has unveiled a new navigation and cargo operations simulator training centre in Glasgow, Scotland.
Commenting on the opening of the new training centre, Teekay Gas Services president David Glendinning said: “We are just now entering the golden age of gas; the global energy of the future.”

The new simulator centre is expected to train several hundreds of Teekay seafarers annually with intensive courses in ship-handling, navigation, bridge teamwork, ship-to-ship interactions, cargo operations, heavy traffic situations, and harsh weather conditions.
The Society of International Gas Terminal and Tanker Operators (SIGTTO) head Andrew Clifton said: “With a huge increase in the global gas fleet in the next two to three years, there is a critical need to invest in training and training facilities.”
Teekay has a fleet of 34 LNG vessels, each of which are capable of carrying nearly one million metric tonnes of cargo on an annual basis, and can transport LNG equivalent to about 30% of the UK’s annual energy requirements.
