Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri has signed a contract via its Fincantieri Infrastructure Opere Marittime to reconstruct, reinforce and adapt the first Italian marina, Marina of Rapallo.
The marina was destroyed in October 2018 due to the storms, which damaged the Ligurian coast and most of the Italian coast.

The reconstruction of the port also aims to secure the port and the ‘marine area’ of Rapallo.
The work will restore the Carlo Riva Port to the highest and most advanced maritime safety and logistical-infrastructural safety design standards.
The data to reinforce the port is based on the advanced physical model that was created by an Italian university centre.
With the new model, the breakwater will be able to withstand future meteorological events of equal intensity.

However, the breakwater and wave wall are scheduled to be completed in June next year.
Fincantieri Infrastructure has temporarily partnered with Fincosit Srl and was contracted by the Western Ligurian Sea System Authority to move and widen the breakwater at the port of Vado Ligure.
Fincantieri Group CEO Giuseppe Bono said: “I wish to welcome the signing of this contract, which will allow Fincantieri, through its subsidiary Infrastructure, to put its expertise at the service of the reconstruction and modernisation of a marina, which is a symbol of the Italian maritime industry, that we hope will represent a sign of recovery for the sector and for Italy’s tourism.
“Together with the port of Vado Ligure, we will have the possibility to contribute to the strengthening of the Ligurian coast and the consequent relaunch of its economic satellite activities.”
In January last year, Fincantieri signed a preliminary collaboration agreement with Cassa depositi e prestiti (CDP) and Snam for the development of port facilities in the country.
