Haina International Terminals (HIT) is to apply real-time collaboration between terminals, carriers and local agencies using XVELA’s Collaborative Berth Window Management platform.

The application is expected to reduce time spent inactively while improving the use of berth space and associated resources for the multipurpose port terminal RIO HAINA in the Dominican Republic.

Collaborative Berth Window Management allows carriers, terminals, agents and port authorities to optimise their operations by viewing each other’s status.

Haina International Terminals Operations vice-president Armando Rivas said: “With XVELA, we will be able to allocate the resources to operate all the vessels in an efficient environment, to boost both productivity and revenue.

“XVELA’s Collaborative Berth Window Management application will help us deliver forward in time to local agents and line carriers whether we can receive vessels at a specific date and time, and give them options as to when will be better for them to arrive to avoid delays and costs.

“We will be able to better allocate and plan for resources at the terminal to maximise our assets and investments.”

The application provides real-time visibility as well as estimated time of arrival figures that incorporate validated potential berth positions.

Additionally, ocean carriers can use the application to determine both navigation routes and the speeds required to optimise their vessel’s fuel consumption.

With the help of the platform, customers will be provided with a better service due to real-time collaboration between the terminal, local agents and carriers.

The application also prevents expensive stevedoring resources from being wasted.

In March, shipping liner company Hapag-Lloyd announced plans to implement XVELA’s carrier and terminal collaboration services to improve transparency throughout the transportation supply chain.
