Canadian flag fleet of dry and liquid bulk carrier Algoma Central Corporation has christened its second Equinox-class bulk cargo vessel, the Algoma Harvester, in Hamilton Harbour.
The Algoma Harvester vessel is the second in the series of eight new Equinox carriers and will join the first ship, the Algoma Equinox, as part of the company’s 32-vessel Canadian-flagged Great Lakes fleet.

Algoma president and CEO Greg Wight said: “We are also very pleased to host the Algoma Harvester christening in Hamilton today with our major customer, ArcelorMittal Dofasco.
“The Equinox-class bulkers have been designed to optimise performance in the movement of iron ore for companies such as ArcelorMittal Dofasco and for the movement of grain products.”
Algoma Harvester will provide the extra capacity required to meet the needs of Canadian grain farmers to take last year’s record crop to market. Around $300m has been invested by Algoma to build six Equinox-class vessels.
Representing the next generation of Great Lakes St Lawrence Waterway bulk cargo vessels, the Equinox-class ships are equipped with a modern tier-two compliant engine for optimised fuel efficiency and a fully integrated IMO approved exhaust gas scrubber.
