German marine power solution provider Caterpillar Marine has secured a contract to supply diesel electric propulsion packages for two liftboats being built for Mekers Offshore Company at Jiangsu Dajing Heavy Industry’s shipyard in China.

Under the contract, Caterpillar Marine will provide two identical diesel electric systems that feature four Cat Propulsion MTA-523 1500kW azimuth thrusters driven by electric motors and soft starters.

In addition, it will equip each vessel with eight Cat C32 generator sets and other components in the electric power system besides the main switchboard, power management systems, central monitoring and alarm systems, transformers, uninterruptible power supplies and variable frequency drives.

Deliveries under the contract are scheduled to take place in 2016.

Designed by Shanghai Bestway Marine Technology Development Company, the two liftboats are slated to be delivered in mid-2016.

In March, US-based marine transportation company Edison Chouest Offshore selected Caterpillar Marine to provide Cat Tier 4 Final C280-16 generator sets for two new vessels.

The new vessels are currently being constructed at Edison Chouest’s La Ship shipyard in Houma, Louisiana, US. Each one will be equipped with a Cat generator rated at 5,060bkW at 900rpm.
