Crowley Maritime has received Louisiana, the third of four next-generation 50,000 dead weight tonnage (dwt) Jones Act product tankers, built by Philadelphia-based Philly Shipyard.

The newly delivered 600ft vessel will be christened in New Orleans next month, and is set to join the sister ships in the series; Ohio and Texas, reported Marinelog.

Based on the Hyundai Mipo Dockyards (HMD) design, it is the 23rd vessel built by Philly Shipyard.

"The Louisiana’s delivery continues to enhance the services we are able to provide to our petroleum customers."

It incorporates several fuel efficiency features, has flexible cargo capability and meets the latest regulatory requirements.

The vessel, which has secured LNG Ready Level 1 approval from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), has the capacity to carry 14.5 million gallons of crude oil or refined products.

Philly Shipyard is currently building the remaining product tanker for Crowley and expects to deliver it later this year.

Additionally, the shipyard has commenced construction of four 50,000dwt tankers, to be delivered to a subsidiary of Kinder Morgan.
