Damen has started the construction of Maersk Supply Service’s new subsea support vessel at its shipyard in Galati, Romania, following a keel-laying ceremony.
In March this year, DeepOcean and Maersk Supply Service signed a contract for the construction of a Damen Offshore Carrier DOC 8500.

Maersk Supply Service CEO Carsten Plougmann Andersen said: "Keel-laying of this vessel is the very physical evidence of Maersk Supply Service strengthening our position in the subsea support vessel market.
"We are looking very much forward to continuing the good cooperation with all involved parties to achieve delivery in February 2016."
The new-build vessel will be owned and operated by Maersk Supply Service as the latest addition to the more than 60-strong Maersk offshore support vessel fleet.
The 138m-long and 27.5m-wide DOC 8500 will feature 2,200m² of unobstructed deck of 20t/m² load capacity with roll-on / roll-off (Ro-Ro) capability.

By GlobalDataWith 9,300dwt, the new vessel will be capable of running at a maximum speed of 12k.
DeepOcean UK managing director Tony Inglis said: "This next-generation cable lay vessel in combination with our survey and trenching capabilities will enable us to bundle our services for customers in the offshore power cable and umbilical markets.
"The versatile new vessel will be well-suited for installation and burial projects using its 7,000t carousel from land-fall to deepwater and also in remote geographical locations."
