Damen Shipyards Group has been selected by Chile-based towage service provider, SAAMS, to deliver two ASD Tugs 2411.

Scheduled to be delivered in May this year, the two ASD Tugs christened as Mirlo and Tordo were built at Damen’s shipbuilding facility in Vietnam.

Both the tugs are 24.47m in length, they have a displacement of 490t and are propelled by Caterpillar 3516C TA HD engine.

Mirlo and Tordo have a bollard pull of 72t and 70t, and are capable of achieving a speed of 13.4k and 13.5k, respectively.

The vessels are outfitted with an array of features including a search light; radar system; satellite compass; autopilot and GPS system; echosounder and speedlog etc.

They were constructed with extra plate thickness, extra brackets and extra fendering to impart rigidity to its foundation.

Upon completion, the vessels will be assigned to serve in harbour operations in Chile which include range of services like towing, fire-fighting and pollution control.

SAAM Towage fleet technical manager Pablo Caceres said: "It is very exciting to introduce these two ASD 2411 tugs to the fleet of more than 185 tugboats that SAAM operates today around the Americas.

The delivery package by Damen will also include an arrangement of the transport of the vessels from Vietnam on a heavy lift vessel and will offer additional services including crew training in Chile.

Damen, earlier in November last year, had delivered an ASD Tug 2411, christened as Al Luolo’Aya to the Sharja Port Authority.
