Corvus Energy, a company based in Canada, has signed a deal with Wärtsilä to supply a lithium ion-based energy storage system (ESS) for a hybrid ferry being built by Wärtsilä.

The ferry, which will be capable of carrying up to 178 vehicles and more than 1,000 passengers, is being built for Wightlink Ferries, a company based in the UK.

Tengizchevroil, an oil and gas company based in Kazakhstan, has placed an order with Blue Water Shipping for two module carrier vehicles for its FGP project.

The latter will build the vessels as part of the $40m-worth order by the second quarter of 2018. Featuring a Vard 921 design, the vessels will measure 123m x 16.5m each.

The first two vessels under the order will be delivered by 2022, while the MOA also includes an option to order two more vessels.

The ships will be designed based on Carnival’s Vista-class platform and will be customised to the specific tastes of the local travellers.

Carnival’s Chinese JV was formed with CSSC and China Investment Capital (CIC Capital) in 2015.
