Germany’s Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven has been selected as a designated partner for US-based Crystal Cruises to deliver three new Exclusive Crystal-Class ocean cruise vessels.

Genting Hong Kong has signed a letter of intent with Lloyd Werft to build the polar ice class vessels.

The new class of river vessels are for the new brand Crystal River Cruises. The first cruise ship is expected for delivery in late-2018.

Crystal chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok said: “Our vision and revolutionary plans for Crystal’s ocean vessels requires us to partner with a premium shipyard that has the expertise and resources to deliver the ‘Crystal Exclusive-class’.

“Lloyd Werft is synonymous with successful world-class new builds and luxury mega yachts, including Luna, the second largest expedition private yacht in the world, measuring at 337ft long.”

The new all-suite, all balcony ship Crystal vessels, which will accommodate 1,000 guests and weigh more than 100,000gt, are said to be the first expedition-capable ships.

Crystal president and CEO Edie Rodriguez said: “With an impressive 100t of space per guest, the average space ratio for luxury cruise ships being 60t per person, our new ships’ guest-to-space rations will be vast in comparison to past, current and under-construction luxury ships, reaching all corners of the world safely, smoothly and in the utmost style and comfort.”

The new ships will also feature 48 residential suites, with their own private restaurant, reception and facilities on the top deck.

Other features include a 400ft² minimum for guestroom suites, and all yacht-like amenities including submarines, helicopters and zodiacs.
