German shipbuilder Meyer Werft has commenced construction of Hong Kong-based Star Cruises’s new vessel, following the steel cutting ceremony held at its facility in Papenburg, Germany.
The 324m-long and 39.7m-wide mega cruise ships will be able to house 4,925 passengers and 2,000 crewmembers.

The vessels will be more than 151,000gt and capable of cruising at a speed of about 23k.
Genting Hong Kong chairman and CEO Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay said: "It is a proud moment for all of us at Genting Hong Kong, especially for me, as today’s steel cutting ceremony marks a new chapter for Genting Hong Kong, reaffirming our Star Cruises brand as the leader in Asian cruise travel.
"The delivery of these two newly commissioned mega cruise ships will enable us to continue to strengthen and further enhance our competitiveness across our key source markets."
The first vessel is expected to be handed over late in 2016, while delivery of the sister vessel is scheduled for the following year.

By GlobalDataThe 21-deck, luxury cruise ships will offer high-end itineraries, leisure and entertainment options, and 30 food and beverage outlets such as gourmet restaurants, bars and cafes specialising in international and Asian cuisines.
Meyer Werft managing partner Bernard Meyer said: "We are glad to continue the long-lasting relationship, which starts 20 years ago with building of SuperStar Leo and now we build these new ships for Star Cruises."
In January, Switzerland-based power and automation technology provider ABB secured orders worth $60m from Meyer Werft to provide complete electrical power plant and propulsion systems for the two, new, luxury vessels.
