Global VSAT Forum (GVF), along with stabilised communications platforms manufacturer Intellian, has launched a new certification programme, Intellian specialist certification, in a bid to cater to the demand for satellite-based maritime connectivity.

Intellian specialist certification also includes an initial course on terminal operation, GVF 562N, mainly for seafarers.

Developed by SatProf, the new course also features several follow-on courses for field technicians and will cover stabilised platform installation and maintenance.

"The new course also features several follow-on courses for field technicians."

Designed for radio operators, IT technicians, as well as other seafarers and crew members who operate Intellian Ku/Ka VSAT terminals while underway, the new course will teach them how to monitor, operate, and perform at-sea maintenance of the v60, v60G, v80G, v100 and v100GX (in Ku-band mode) marine stabilised VSAT terminals.

It also includes various topics such as hardware components, principles of operation of the terminal, startup and shutdown procedures using the front panel operator controls, satellite modem operation, operator-level troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.

Intellian support services global director Charlie Snooke said: “To support Intellian’s quickly expanding market share in the maritime VSAT market, it makes sense to leverage the GVF training programme as the industry’s standard in training for VSAT operators and installers.”

The company’s marine VSAT terminals currently provide global broadband coverage to vessels at sea.

With the launch of the new programme, crew operators will be able to receive Intellian online certification training and can perform critical operational tasks after the installation of VSAT terminals.

GVF noted that the new GVF 562N course, along with its prerequisite GVF 561 (marine VSAT fundamentals) have been included in Intellian specialist certification free of cost to all GVF knowledge centre subscribers and site license holders.
