Norwegian Cruise Line has launched The Norwegian Edge, a $400m refurbishment programme to be implemented over two years.
Under the programme, the cruise line will refurbish its fleet’s infrastructure, introduce new culinary experiences and upgrade two premier private island destinations.

Norwegian Cruise Line president and chief operating officer Andy Stuart said: "The new standards of The Norwegian Edge programme will entice our guests to return again and again to ships that will look and feel as if they were just delivered, with all new menus and new dining experiences, visiting incredible exclusive destinations that reflect the quality finishes, amenities and outstanding service found across the Norwegian fleet."
Nine ships will be refurbished under the Norwegian Edge programme.
Seven ships will go into dry dock for both guest-facing and technical enhancements. Pride of America, Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Dawn will be refurbished in 2016; Norwegian Spirit, Norwegian Sky, Norwegian Pearl and Norwegian Jade in 2017.
The programme began in October 2015 with Norwegian Epic, which is being upgraded with the inclusion of the Cavern Club, and restaurants La Cucina, Cagney’s, Le Bistro and Moderno Churrascaria.

By GlobalDataIn November, Norwegian Gem received a facelift with refurbishments to the interiors, entertainment venues, and furniture, and installation of interactive digital signage and wayfinding technology.
A newly created culinary programme will offer flexible dining options customised to suit the customer’s appetite.
Additionally, the programme will also promote training and certification for the fleet’s culinary and dining teams.
Norwegian will develop Caribbean’s premier resort-style experience at private destination Harvest Caye, Belize and The Bahamian island, Great Stirrup Cay.
Earlier this week, Norwegian’s subsidiary Regent Seven Seas Cruises has also announced a $125m refurbishment programme across its fleet over a two-year period. The line will modernise Seven Seas Navigator, Seven Seas Voyager and Seven Seas Mariner by 2017.
