Denmark's Port of Esbjerg has begun the evaluation of a planned expansion that will help manage the recent increase in activity around the port by 2030, both within existing and new business areas.
The port is located on the south-west coast of Jutland and is currently experiencing high levels of activity.

Port officials expect that the site's areas and quay will become fully utilised in the future, which will generate a need of a further expansion and create additional growth and jobs.
Estimates state that the Port of Esbjerg will need to expand by almost a million square metres and construct an additional 1km of additional quay length from 2022 to 2030 in order to meet the continued increase in demand.
The port intends to complete an expansion of an additional 250,000m² this year alone, which is included in the existing permissions.
It is reported that the possibility of further expanding the port with up to 975,000m² will be clarified following an environmental impact assessment.

By GlobalDataPort of Esbjerg director Ole Ingrisch said: “The Port of Esbjerg must offer an infrastructure that matches the needs of our customers in terms of quality, layout and size.
“This is the prerequisite for ensuring continued growth and development for the benefit of both the companies at the port, the port itself, and the whole region.
“Otherwise, our customers will look elsewhere to conduct their business.”
The formal environmental impact assessment process, including public consultations, is anticipated to commence later this year under the expansion initiative.
The Port of Esbjerg is one of the prominent centres for sea carriage and trade between Denmark and the rest of the world. It has been in operation since 1868 and covers an area of 4.5 million square metres.
More than 200 companies are currently located at the port, employing a combined total of roughly 10,000 people.
