Shipbuilder Royal IHC (IHC) has successfully launched its 550t pipe laying vessel built for Subsea 7 at its shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel, Netherlands.

New-build vessel, Seven Rio, is the second of four vessels ordered by Subsea 7 and is expected to be delivered in 2016.

The ship will be joined by Seven Cruzeiro and Seven Sun to complete the fleet, which have been contracted by Petrobras to operate in Brazilian waters.

IHC offshore division managing director Arjan Klijnsoon said: "The launch of the Seven Rio is yet another milestone in the long and successful cooperation between Subsea 7 and IHC.

"Seven Rio has a Class-2 dynamic positioning system and is equipped with a vertical (tiltable) lay system with a 550t top tension capacity."

The 146m-long Seven Rio has a Class-2 dynamic positioning system and is equipped with a vertical (tiltable) lay system with a 550t top tension capacity and twin ROVs.

In addition, the vessel has two under-deck storage carousels with a capacity for 2,500t and 1,500t of product respectively. With a maximum deadweight of 11,312t, the vessel will be able to accommodate 120 people.

Earlier this year, IHC delivered another pipe laying vessel named Seven Waves to the ship owner and it is currently working for Petrobras.

IHC also constructed three additional pipe laying vessels for Subsea 7 namely Seven Oceans, Seven Seas and Seven Pacific in 2007, 2008 and 2010 respectively.
