Canada’s Vancouver Shipyards has received a contract to build six chip barges for parent company Seaspan Marine.

The chip barges will have a length of 61m, breadth of 15m and depth of 4m.

The construction of the new barges is scheduled to start in January 2012 and should be completed by January 2013, according to marinelog.com.

The company said that the new chip barges are similar in design to the 12 barges previously built at Vancouver Shipyards since 2000.
