Wärtsilä has launched a new anchor-handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel design, focusing on simplicity, efficiency, low fuel consumption and reduced environmental impact.
The new series of AHTS designs will feature a bollard pull of 180t, with options for 150t or 220t.

Fully compliant with ABS and the latest SOLAS regulations, the new design will offer a hybrid propulsion system with a two-speed gearbox.

According to Wärtsilä, it is estimated that the new design will offer a reduction of 20% to 25% in fuel consumption compared with conventional diesel mechanical four-engine solutions.

By GlobalDataThis design provides equipment solutions that are suitable for medium-to-large AHTS vessels. The two-speed gearbox system in this series is selected to meet the design targets of reduced costs and less complexity.
The hybrid, two-speed gearbox power take-in (PTI) solution will ensure a seamless transfer from one operational mode to another, with the ability to work efficiently in all operational modes.
The arrangement produces no loss in power take-off (PTO) during the change of propeller speeds, the company stated.
