The Government and New South Wales (NSW) in Australia and the Port of Newcastle have unveiled the design of the new Newcastle Cruise Terminal, which is expected to be built on an area of roughly 3,000m².
The purpose-built facility will be equipped with various facilities for passenger drop-off and pick up, coach parking and vessel provisioning.

Funding for the A$12.7m ($9.7m) site is set to be provided via the NSW Government’s Restart NSW Hunter Infrastructure Investment Fund.
The terminal’s construction will be carried out as part of the A$13.5m ($10m) Newcastle cruise infrastructure upgrade programme, which also includes the development of new mooring bollards.
The mooring bollards were completed in May this year with financing provided by the NSW Government and Australia’s Federal Government.
Port of Newcastle has worked in collaboration with the cruise industry, tourism representatives and various Australian border agencies to design the new terminal.

By GlobalDataThe principal contractor for the facility’s development is set to be appointed by early next year.
Port of Newcastle CEO Geoff Crowe said: “The new cruise terminal, to be built at the Channel Berth, will enable the port to receive more and larger cruise ships in the future.
“Importantly, it will position Newcastle as a homeport where ships can start and finish their destination in Newcastle.
“Eventually, cruise visits could also be aligned with major events such as the V8 Supercars, adding another dimension to the visitor and tourism experience.”
According to the Australian Cruise Association, cruise shipping currently contributes around A$11m ($8.3m) annually to the local economy in Newcastle.
