Ireland-based Transas has entered a new strategic partnership with Japan Radio Company (JRC) to conduct research and development (R&D) of various hardware and software solutions to produce next-generation e-navigation products for the marine sector.

Both the companies will first be involved in the design and development of new elastic cloud storage (ECS) product line as part of the new partnership, as well as new radar products and the automated ship integrated into the global monitoring model.

Innovative charts and data applications, fleet operations as well as simulation and ship traffic solutions and global support capabilities are also set to be developed under the new collaboration.

The deal will see Transas and JRC jointly work in the fields of product distribution and project collaboration and will launch new products and services, in addition to ship navigation solutions for Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and non-SOLAS markets.

The newly formed partnership is expected to benefit from JRC's hardware capabilities and Transas software and R&D knowhow.

Transas previously launched its THESIS concept last year, which combines the strands of vessel monitoring and traffic control, innovative vessel handling technology and connectivity, and vessel performance optimisation and training into a unified solution that combines various technologies, expertise and content.
