Dubai-based port and logistics company DP World has added another port to its portfolio with its acquisition of Savan Logistics, the operating company of the Savannakhet dry port in Laos.

The 140,456m2 dry port, just off the Mekong River, is part of the Savannakhet Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and sits on the West end of the East-West Economic Corridor connecting Laos with Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

Following its acquisition of Savan, DP World will take on the dry port and warehousing services at the port, alongside cross-border transport, freight forwarding, and integrated logistics solutions.

Glen Hilton, CEO of Asia Pacific at DP World, said the acquisition was an “important move” to boost the company’s connectivity in the region thanks to Savannakhet’s proximity to its other ports and terminals along the economic corridor.

He said: “We will extend our expertise and resources to enhance the infrastructure of the dry port, capitalising on its geographical advantages to propel trade forward for our customers.

“Most importantly, we want to enhance the economic conditions of communities which rely on this vital trade corridor for their daily livelihoods.”
