Norway-based Brunvoll has announced a trio of new contracts in a successful week for the manufacturer that has strengthened its position in its domestic propulsion and manoeuvring systems market.
The company signed a propulsion upgrade contract Utkilen, a hybrid systems supply deal with GOT Marine, and a propulsion, manoeuvring and positioning system delivery contract with Aas Mek Verksted.

The first of the three deals will see Brunvoll complete a “substantial upgrade” of the propulsion systems on two ice class vessels for Utkilen, installing new gear transition equipment and redesigning the propeller blades using data from an extensive analysis of the vessels.
Brunvoll’s upgrades will be carried out alongside the installation of a Becker Mewis Duct energy saving device for both the Golfstraum and Rystraum to provide an improved operating speed and a larger emission savings potential following the works in late 2024 and early 2025.
Carl Ove Utkilen, project manager at Utkilen, said: “This simultaneous design process for the propeller and duct, achieved through the cooperation of all parties, has demonstrated higher overall savings in our simulations compared to designing them separately.”
The other two contracts signed by Brunvoll covered two newbuild projects including GOT Marine’s new search and rescue (SAR) vessel which will operate on a hybrid-electric system using Brunvoll’s energy management system and DC Switchboard technology.

By GlobalDataSet to operate in the northern part of Norway’s seas, the SAR vessel will also be fitted with a CPP system, steering gear and thruster control systems from the Triton range sold by Brunvoll subsidiary Brunvoll Mar-El.
The other newbuild project will see Brunvoll supply a range of systems for two new 89m long live fish carriers with a 4,700 ton capacity being built by Aas Mek Verksted for Njord Aquashipping.
Brunvoll will supply two ducted azimuth propulsion thrusters, a tunnel thruster, a propulsion and thruster control system, and a class 0 dynamic positioning system for each of the two vessels.
The flurry of new contracts comes only shortly after the Norwegian manufacturer signed another high-profile deal with Orient Express, which added Brunvoll as the propulsion supplier for its new Silenseas cruise ship, set to be the largest sailing ship in the world.
