The governments of Canada and Nova Scotia have announced a joint investment plan to build a second berth for cruise ships, as well as a number of other upgrades, at the Port of Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada.
A new 287m-long berth will be built as part of the C$13.3m ($10m) combined funding project to accommodate the Queen Mary II model of cruise ships, which are increasingly being used by operators.

It will also help Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Canada, to continue attracting major cruise operators along the New England-Quebec corridor.
Additional plans include a new port administration office to be added to the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavillion, and overall accessibility to the port is expected to be improved.
The governments of Canada and Nova Scotia will provide up to C$6.66m each for the project, which is valued at approximately C$20m ($15m); the Cape Breton Regional Municipality will contribute the remaining amount.

The new cruise ship berth is expected to create jobs, as well as improve tourism and generate new economic opportunities across the province.
Cruise liners are estimated to have brought more than 82,000 passengers through the Port of Sydney last year.
