French marine engineering company Gaztransport & Technigaz’s (GTT) Mark V technology will be used to equip a new LNG carrier ordered by ship-owner Gaslog, as part of a previous order.

South Korean shipbuilding company Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has ordered the technology in October last year to be installed aboard the vessel.

The company will construct the vessel at its shipyard located in Geoje Island, South Korea, and the delivery is expected to take place in 2019.

GTT chairman and CEO Philippe Berterottière said: “Gaslog's choice of our new membrane containment system highlights the confidence of our partners in our innovations.

Mark V, which is completely designed by GTT, reduces the guaranteed daily boil-off rate of liquified natural gas (LNG) to 0.07% of the tank volume per day.

The technology is derived from the sea proven GTT Mark range and also optimises the dynamic insulation resistance.

GTT Mark range is adapted to all sizes of LNG carriers.          

The Mark V membrane system is a cryogenic liner directly supported by the ship’s inner hull and consists of metallic membranes combined with insulation prefabricated panels. It also includes a 36% nickel-iron alloy corrugated secondary membrane.
