Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has secured approval from the Government of Cuba to operate cruises in the country from March next year.

The approval has enabled the company to operate all of its three brands, including Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, in Cuba.

The company is planning to start its first voyage to Cuba from the US’ PortMiami on its Oceania Cruises' Marina on 7 March next year, with select Caribbean itineraries.

"I am incredibly proud that one of Oceania's vessels will be our company's first to sail to Cuba."

In addition, Seven Seas Mariner, belonging to the Regent Seven Seas Cruises fleet, will call at Havana, Cuba, during two cruises planned by April next year.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings president and CEO Frank Del Rio said: “As a Cuban-American and founder of Oceania Cruises, I am incredibly proud that one of Oceania's vessels will be our company's first to sail to Cuba.

“This is truly a dream come true for me, and I cannot wait for our loyal guests to experience the sights and sounds of my hometown of Havana and get to know its rich culture and its warm and welcoming residents."

The company currently has a combined fleet of 24 ships with around 46,500 berths, and offers itineraries to more than 510 destinations worldwide.

Norwegian Cruise Line is planning to introduce four new ships through 2020.

Recently the company announced its plan to launch a new vessel, Norwegian Bliss, for cruises in the Alaska region, by June 2018.
