McMurdo, a part of Orolia Group, has developed a new global satellite communications system, OmniCom, to provide fleet management and vessel monitoring solutions for the workboat, commercial fishing and artisanal fishing industries.
Scheduled to be launched over the next six months, OmniCom integrates global satellite coverage for constant communications to and from remote vessels, with McMurdo’s fleet management software, PRISMA Connect.

This will enable vessel tracking, two-way messaging, asset / document management, and automatic identification system (AIS) display services.
Offering 3G cellular coverage and speed, the newly developed system uses an Iridium Satellite Network, which provides coverage including the polar regions.
In addition, McMurdo OmniCom includes least-cost routing, which help in the better management of communications expenses by automatically switching from an Iridium satellite to low-cost cellular when available.
