The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has entered into a joint statement with the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries to improve the maritime ties between the countries.
As part of the deal, both the countries will work together to boost their commercial and industrial cooperation in the fields of research and development (R&D) in maritime environments, sustainable energy technology, as well as offshore and marine engineering.

They will also work together to develop maritime operations and info-communications technology.
Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore chief executive Andrew Tan said: “Norway and Singapore enjoy close maritime relations.
“I am pleased to reaffirm our longstanding partnership with Norway in areas of maritime and offshore R&D and maritime education, and look forward to working together to develop innovative, cost-effective and sustainable solutions to enhance the competitiveness of our respective maritime industries’.”
Norway’s BI Norwegian School of Management and Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU) are already undertaking bachelor and masters courses on science in maritime studies.

By GlobalDataMeanwhile, during the multi-agency joint oil spill exercise (JOSE 2016), MPA tested a new system, ‘NeatSweep’ to contain the spilled oil.
The oil and chemical spill exercise was conducted to ensure safety, security and cleanliness at the ports.
More than 250 personnel from 28 agencies took part in JOSE 2016.
