Ireland-based marine technology provider Transas has used Dell EMC OEM Solutions’ hardware, software and deployment services to build a next-generation, virtualised simulation training system for cruise company Carnival.
To be installed at Carnival’s Arison Maritime Center near Amsterdam, Netherlands, the simulator will be used for the company’s ten major cruise ship brands.

Built in Transas’ facility in Hamburg, Germany, the Dell EMC solution will also be used to power navigational and engine-room simulators.
In order to build the simulators, Transas is currently developing 12 tailored cruise ship models, 60 sailing areas, and three new cruise ship engine models.
Once completed, the simulation solutions will be equipped with a 270° simulation screen, and will enable up to 6,500 crew members annually to visualise some of the world’s major ports and cruise destinations, such as the Los Angeles, Miami and New York, US; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Singapore.

Designed to reduce hardware use by 77% and energy consumption by 30%, the simulation software uses Dell Storage PS610X arrays and Dell PowerEdge R730 servers.
It also uses Dell Precision R7910 workstations and Dell Wyse thin clients connected to Dell monitors and Dell Networking switches.
Additionally, the solution employs Dell OpenManage to reduce management expenses and ProSupport to ensure high levels of uptime if a component fails.
Transas said that it has so far provided simulator solutions for 1,500 training centres across the globe.
