Germany-based Caterpillar Marine has been selected to provide its Cat power solutions for Stena Line’s four new 3100 LM RoPax ferries.
Once completed, all four ferries will be equipped with two MaK 12 M 43 C propulsion engines.

As part of the deal, Caterpillar will provide two MPP1500F and two MPP1410F controllable pitch propellers, in addition to the engines and required gear boxes.
Caterpillar Marine cruise and ferry segment manager Ulf Hannemann said: “By combining a set of proven technologies Caterpillar’s solution will provide Stena Line the most fuel efficient ferries in the world and will set a new industry standard when it comes to operational performance, emissions and cost competitiveness, positioning Stena Line to support its customers in the next decades.”
Cat dealer Pon Power is also involved in the project and will continue to manage the subsequent servicing of the Caterpillar solutions.
Pon Power key account manager Erik Hass said: "The Stena project is a significant milestone for both Pon Power A/S and Caterpillar Marine as Stena Line is one of the first leading European ferry operators to place such an order from a Chinese shipyard."

By GlobalDataFeaturing a length of 212m and a width of 27.8m, the ferries will be able to accommodate 1,000 passengers, including 73 crew members.
Designed by Deltamarin, the ferries will be constructed at AVIC Weihai Shipyard in China.
Ranging from 5kw to 16,000kw, Caterpillar Marine’s Cat Power Systems are designed to power new and next-generation vessels.
