Wärtsilä has won a contract to provide the re-gasification system for a floating, storage, re-gasification unit (FSRU) conversion project, which will be performed by Norway’s Höegh liquid natural gas (LNG) vessel.

Featuring regas technology, the Wärtsilä re-gasification system uses water glycol and is 15% smaller compared to a propane-based system.

Wärtsilä will also provide the water glycol re-gasification module, water glycol/seawater heaters and pumps for the FSRU conversion project.

Delivery of the systems is scheduled for next year.

"We did not hesitate in accepting their competitive bid and selecting their system for this FSRU conversion vessel.”

Höegh LNG president and CEO Sveinung Støhle said: “Having used Wärtsilä’s systems for previous FSRUs, we are familiar with their expertise in this field and we did not hesitate in accepting their competitive bid and selecting their system for this FSRU conversion vessel.”

So far, Wärtsilä has provided eight re-gasification systems and a number of regas systems to Höegh LNG.

Last month, Wärtsilä said that a new ferry being built at the Cemre shipyard in Turkey for UK operator Wightlink would feature the company’s modern range of equipment and systems.

The new vessel will also use Wärtsilä hybrid battery technology to reduce exhaust emissions and  noise levels, as well as improve efficiency.
