US-based American Cruise Lines has launched its new ship 'American Constellation' into the waters of the Wicomico River.

The new cruise ship has been designed and built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland, US.

The company noted that upper decks of the ship will be installed and outfitting will be done before the beginning of its first cruise, which is scheduled next year.

"We are thrilled that the construction of American Constellation continues to be well ahead of schedule."

American Cruise Lines vice-president Timothy Beebe said: “We are thrilled that the construction of American Constellation continues to be well ahead of schedule.”

Few weeks before the launch, the two major hull sections of American Constellation’s were attached.

When fully completed, American Cruise Lines’ fleet will increase up to nine ships.

The new ship, with a capacity to carry 170 passengers, will provide ten night cruises on a new Grand New England itinerary sailing round-trip from Boston, Massachusetts, US after sailing two seven night cruises on the Chesapeake Bay round-trip from Baltimore, Maryland, US.

In May this year, American Cruise Lines’ new ship 'America' successfully conducted its maiden journey on the Mississippi River.

America’s inaugural journey was a round-trip cruise to and from New Orleans, Louisiana.  

Apart from American Constellation, American Cruise Lines' current fleet includes four paddlewheelers and four coastal cruisers.

American Cruise Lines provides cruse services around the US including the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, New England, the Southeast, and the entire Mississippi River system.
