Disney cruise line has signed a memorandum of agreement with Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany to build two new cruise ships.

The new ships will bring Disney’s fleet to six, which currently comprises of the cruises Magic, Wonder, Dream and Fantasy.

The ships are said to be larger than Disney Cruise Line’s Dream and Disney ships, weighing approximately 135,000 gross tonnes.

The new cruises will feature 1,250 guest staterooms and is said to replicate the Disney style infrastructures including entertainment, dining options, staterooms and public spaces existing in the Disney cruises.

The design of the structure, the christening and the itineraries are still subject to speculation.

The company had launched the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy in 2011 and 2012, which had introduced new entertainment features developed by the company like the water coaster at sea (AquaDuck) and virtual portholes in interior staterooms (magical portholes) that provide real-time views of the sea, as well as sightings of animated Disney characters.

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts chairman Bob Chapek said: "The expansion of Disney Cruise Line only adds to our excitement for the unprecedented growth taking place across our vacation destinations, from new Star Wars experiences coming to the Walt Disney World and Disneyland resorts to the 25th anniversary of Disneyland Paris and the grand opening of our newest park, Shanghai Disney Resort."

Under the agreement, the new cruise ships are expected to be completed in 2021 and 2023.
