Ship classification societies DNV GL and Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) have entered into a bilateral framework agreement pledging cooperation on a range of subjects.
The societies earlier had pledged their cooperation in issuing a dual classification status for the ships. Currently, 20 ships are classified under the RS and DNV GL guidelines.

The two companies are exploring options to exercise their cooperation in a bid to boost their competencies.
DNV GL Maritime CEO Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen said: "We look forward to strengthening our cooperation with RS, which will benefit the Russian maritime industry and our long-term partnerships with Russian clients."
The cooperation agreement seeks to emphasise on areas such as ensuring adherence to the requirements of the Polar Code adopted by the IMO in 2014 for vessels navigating on polar waters.
It also included providing relevant expert assistance to stakeholders and developing interpretations of the code provisions, building on RS and DNV GL’s experience.

By GlobalDataThe agreement will allow both classification societies to assess the ship’s adherence to the guideline set forth by both of the companies by means of assigning authorities to monitor the ships, new buildings and ships in service, surveys of materials, and vessel equipment, on behalf each other.
DNV GL and RS have also laid stress on improving the technical standards of the gas-fuelled ships.
Last month, ESL shipping had constructed its first large LNG dual-fuelled bulk carriers aligned to the new set of DNV GL rules.
