Meyer Turku Shipyard in Finland has floated out it’s first ship under Mein Schiff ownership, it is being built for Royal Caribbean Cruises subsidiary TUI Cruises.

Mein Schiff 5, a sister ship of Mein Schiff 4, has been under construction at the shipyard for 14 months, and is scheduled to be completed later this year.

The vessel was set afloat from the drydock to the outfitting pierby opening of the bulkheads. She willundergo interior and exterior fittings at the pier.

Meyer Turku CEO Jan Meyer said: "Step by step the good work of our team is coming together and the ship starts to look like a ship.

"Mein Schiff 4, the sister ship is well received by its guest, yet we cannot stand still and are implementing multiple improvements, big and small, on Mein Schiff 5 to further improve the guest experience."

The 295m long Mein Schiff 5 is designed for fuel efficiency.

The ship measures 36m in breadth and includes 1,267 cabins, of which approximately 90% will be outer cabins and 82% will have their own balcony.She can accommodate about 1,000 crew members.

Tailored to meet the customer’s needs, the ship will feature amenities such as a high-quality theatre, outdoor pool area, sports facilities, and an array of restaurants.

Mein Schiff 4 was delivered to TUI in May 2015, while Mein Schiff 6 is scheduled for 2017.

Meyer Turku will also build the seventh and eighth ships in the fleet, under a contract signed in July 2015. The two will be delivered in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
