Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has entered into an agreement with Viking Ocean Cruises to build two more cruise ships.

Under the terms of the agreement, Fincantieri will design the new ships while the layout of the interior will be assigned to the study Rottet of Los Angeles and the SMC Design in London.

The two new builds will be delivered in mid-2018 and the end of 2020 respectively.

“The new units will be equipped with 465 cabins and can accommodate 930 passengers on board, with a total accommodation capacity of more than 1,400 people, including crew.”

The contract will be operational when all the technical and financial conditions will be defined.

The first vessel was delivered this spring, while the second and third will enter service respectively in 2016 and 2017. They are still being finalised the technical and financial conditions for the fourth ship.

The ships will be deployed for ocean cruises and have a gross tonnage of about 47,800t.

Equipped with modern security systems such as the ‘safe return to port’, the newbuilds will be compliant with the latest regulations on navigation.

Fincantieri delivered the first of three ships for Viking Ocean Cruises, Viking Star in March this year.

Viking Ocean Cruises’ second and third ships, Viking Sea and Viking Sky, are under construction at Fincantieri and delivery is expected to be in early and mid-2016 respectively.
