Norway’s shipbuilding company VARD has awarded a £6m contract to Rolls-Royce to design and equip a shrimp stern trawler.
The 79m-long vessel, which is being built for an undisclosed Canadian firm, will be based on Rolls-Royce NVC 374 design and will feature an ICE 1A ice class hull.

The fishing vessel will be equipped with a wide range of Rolls-Royce equipment, including a Bergen B33:45 main engine, Promas propulsion, and a power electric system with hybrid shaft generator (HSG).
As part of the contract, the company will deliver a package that will also include tunnel thruster, automation, and fishing winches driven by permanent magnet (PM) engines.
The PM engines have been designed to drive thrusters more efficiently and silently. They are suited to operate in harsh conditions that require more control and rapid changes in pull and speed.
The advanced stern trawler will have an onboard factory for the production of a variety of shrimps. It will have a storage capacity of 2,100m3 on specialised decks for palletised cargo with two further packaging holds across two decks.

By GlobalDataThe Bergen B33:45 offers a 20% increase in power per cylinder and is designed to run for 25,000 hours between major maintenance when operating at average loads.
The HSG offers benefits such as improving fuel efficiency, reducing emissions and also significantly reduce operating costs.
Delivery of the fishing vessel is scheduled in December 2016 from VARD’s Aukra yard in Norway.
