The Port of Rotterdam has signed a long-term agreement with independent storage company LBC Tank Terminals for the construction of a new jetty at the latter’s terminal in Botlek-Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The proposed jetty will have four berths, two for seagoing vessels and two for barges. It is intended to facilitate seagoing vessels with a maximum draft of up to 13m, increasing the jetty capacity of the LBC terminal.

Port of Rotterdam CEO Allard Castelein said: “This new jetty is the first and a very important step in the expansion of our terminal in Rotterdam.
“The growing import of liquid chemicals into Europe results in an increasing demand for liquid storage tanks in hubs such as Rotterdam. This investment will enable us to offer additional capacity and to respond even better to the storage requests of existing and new customers.”
With this new facility, LBC will be able to handle two parcel tankers of up to 40,000dwt simultaneously.
Construction of the new jetty will take place in two phases. The first phase of the project will include the construction of two berths
and is expected to be completed by mid-2016 while completion of the entire project is scheduled in the beginning of 2017.

By GlobalDataMeanwhile, LBC also invests in the expansion of its Rotterdam terminal up to a total storage capacity of 250,000m³. The first expansion of 36,000m³ will be operational in the second half of 2016.
In addition, LBC would invest in further optimising and expanding the existing truck and rail-loading infrastructure in the port.
