Dutch towage and salvage operator Multraship has received its first of two customised Stan Launch 804s vessels, Montis 5, from Damen Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam in the Netherlands.

The vessels will be used by Multraship’s line-handling and boatmen service companies Verenigde Bootlieden and Montis Mooring & Boatservice for port operations.

The second vessel, VB 2, is expected to be delivered in early February.

Multraship Towage & Salvage managing director Pepijn Nuijten said: "We had some very specific demands for these vessels.

"We wanted manoeuvrability and flexibility for working in confined spaces, but with the extra power to work as a tug with pusher bow."

For this 8.62m-long vessel of Multraship, Damen has increased the standard bollard pull from 1.4t to 3.2t. It has added an 11kW bow thruster, a 900mm nozzle propeller and more than doubled the installed power to 182kW.

In addition, the air draught has limited to a maximum of 2.75m to help the vessels to escape under open pier structures, if required.

It has also been customised to handle the size and weight of mooring lines on large sea-going ships and are fitted with Mampaey quick-release towing hooks, Damen stated.

In December 2014, Multraship ordered three new azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugs from Damen Shipyards.

Scheduled for delivery in the end of the first quarter on 2015, two ASD Tugs 3212 will operate as sister vessels to the 83t bollard pull Multratug 19, which was built by Damen in Romania and delivered in 2012.
