ABS-Sevan

Classification services provider ABS has issued approval in principle (AIP) for the Sevan cylindrical floating LNG (FLNG) production unit concept for offshore production, storage and transfer of LNG, LPG and condensate.

ABS’s design review for the FLNG concept includes an assessment of the feasibility of the structural strength of the FLNG hull and process topside structure, along with the analysis of performance and safety based on the ABS rules and guides for floating LNG units.

The FLNG design concept of Sevan is based on its circular and geostationary FPSO design.

Sevan Marine CEO Lars Ødeskaug said: "High availability, inherent safety and simple operation should be the main criteria when selecting technology offshore.

"High availability, inherent safety and simple operation should be the main criteria when selecting technology offshore. Sevan…meets these criteria."

"Sevan’s cylindrical FLNG solution meets these criteria at an attractive cost. We are proud to have been granted AIP for our unique design concept, which we believe will introduce a better option for producing, storing and offloading LNG in challenging operating areas."

The cylindrical hull of Sevan will be able to operate in more than 3,000m water depths and in difficult weather conditions.

FLNG production unit’s axio-symetric hull shape offers high-capacity for LNG storage and deck loads and tolerance for weather spreading and avoids the need to weathervane in rough seas, ABS stated.

In addition, the unit will be able to have gas processing and liquefaction up to four million tonnes a year and store up to 240,000m³ of LNG and 36,000m³ of condensate.
