Cruise ship operator Carnival has introduced a new hybrid wireless network high-speed Wi-Fi service to provide faster, more stable and powerful internet service at sea.

The new connectivity network known as WiFi@Sea will integrate land-based antennas installed along cruise routes, and Wi-Fi from a port connection and advanced satellites.

This network will offer broadband wireless internet network on all of Carnival’s 101 ships across nine cruise line brands.

WiFi@Sea will be capable of delivering internet connectivity ten times faster than the earlier network offered on Carnival’s ships.

Carnival senior vice-president and global chief information officer Ramon Millan said: "Our goal is to give our passengers the best possible connection to the internet whether they are in port, cruising near a coastal area or sailing in the middle of the ocean.

The cruise operator will unveil the technology worldwide after the initial launch in North America in the fourth quarter of the year.

The expansion of the network will continue with Alaska in summer of 2015 and will extend to the Mediterranean, Baltic, Western European and Asian regions in 2015 and 2016.
