UK’s Aberdeen Harbour has selected millimetre wave backhaul provider Siklu’s high-capacity backhaul to extend the security solutions coverage in the harbour.

As part of the expansion, the newly built Torry Marine Base in the harbour has deployed an integrated security solution that consists of IP HD CCTV and access control solutions, along with automated vehicle, pedestrian entry points and automatic number plate capture.

The recently deployed backhaul links the new base to the existing IT fibre network infrastructure and helps Aberdeen to carry segregated traffic from a number of sources, including streaming HD video images from the IP HD CCTV.

Scottish Communications Group, which manages the Aberdeen Harbour communications, technical director Liam Mowat said: "We’re extremely pleased with the performance of the new high-capacity wireless backhaul network, complimenting the new integrated security solution we recently deployed.

"Operation is extremely reliable and the support and back-up provided by the team at Purdicom throughout was exceptional."

The Siklu EtherHaul-1200F was recommended by Purdicom because of its high-capacity, full duplex gigabit throughput.

Aberdeen Harbour is one of the UK’s busiest port serving offshore oil and gas industry’s marine support operations in north-west Europe.

Currently, Aberdeen handles around five million tonnes of cargo annually and inputs more than £500m a year into the local economy.
