Australian Shipbuilder Incat Tasmania has named its new fast crew boat (FCB) as Muslim Magomayev, which has been specifically designed for use in the oil and gas industry.

The 70m-long Muslim Magomayev FCB will continue undergoing sea trials and after the successful completion of testing will sail to Baku, Azerbaijan, later this month.

The type DP2-class vessel will be operated by Caspian Marine Services to carry out fast crew transfers for 150 offshore workers to multiple installations in the Caspian Sea.

“The new high-speed boat will allow operational efficiency over helicopter transfer for both passengers and cargo, while reducing stress on passengers.”

Caspian Marine Services managing director Zamig Ismayilov said: “I was surprised on the sea trial that we were moving and I hadn’t even heard the engines start so not only will it carry all that is required, it is fast, quiet and comfortable.”

Muslim Magomayev is powered by four 2,880kW MTU engines each turning Hamilton HT 900 waterjets and is anticipated to reach a design speed of 36k, with an efficient service speed of 30k at full load.

Featuring a semi-SWATH hull design, along with active ride control, the new high-speed boat will allow operational efficiency over helicopter transfer for both passengers and cargo, while reducing stress on passengers.
