Joint venture (JV) unit Wärtsilä Yuchai Engine has opened its new medium-speed marine engine factory in Zhuhai City in the Guangdong Province of China.

This 266,700m² factory will be used for assembling and testing Wärtsilä 20, Wärtsilä 26 and Wärtsilä 32 medium-speed engines.

The Wärtsilä 20, 26 and 32 engines are fully compliant with the IMO tier two exhaust emission regulations, as set out in annex VI of the MARPOL 73/78 convention.

Wärtsilä and Yuchai Marine Power, a subsidiary of Guangxi Yuchai Group, established the 50:50 JV in May 2013, with Wärtsilä’s investment being approximately €17m.

Yuchai Group President Gu Tangsheng said: "In-line with the vision of Yuchai Group, this joint venture is a key milestone in our significant long-term cooperation with Wärtsilä in serving the local marine industry."

The assembly lines and test beds are already in partial operation and the plant will reach full production before the end of 2016.
