Four Greek liquefied natural gas (LNG) ship owners have selected Finland-based Wärtsilä for a five-year technical management agreement, covering a total of 80 ’50DF’ dual-fuel engines.
Under the agreements, Wärtsilä will provide a condition-based maintenance system to the ship owners, comprising Maran Gas Maritime, Dynagas, TMS Cardiff Gas and Thenamaris LNG.

The system will enable operators to detect performance issues in advance, decrease downtime, optimise engine performance and major overhauls, and better predict cashflows, according to Wärtsilä.
Maran Gas Maritime technical director Andreas Spertos said: “We expect that this agreement with Wärtsilä will lead to higher availability, increased efficiency, reduced maintenance cost and reduced risk for the DF Engines installed on Maran Gas Fleet.”
As part of the agreements with TMS and Thenamaris, Wärtsilä’s technical engineers will make use of online remote support to provide real-time support to the crew onboard LNG carriers.
This will reduce travelling time for the engineers as the support can be delivered remotely through an online PC connection.

By GlobalDataWärtsilä Services marine agreements general manager Veikko Lepistö said: “With these long-term agreements, we aim to improve our customers’ business during the entire lifecycle of their installations.
“By utilising the latest technologies in our condition-based maintenance system, our target is to repair or replace engine components when needed, thus reducing costs and minimising downtime caused by unnecessary overhaul.”
Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engine has been designed to smoothly switch between fuels, such as natural gas, light fuel oil or heavy fuel oil, whilst operating and delivering the same output.
