The VTIMS will be designed to keep track of vessels and facilitate movements by providing early warnings of possible collisions and groundings, thus improving the safety and security of maritime traffic to, from and within Algerian ports.
Apart from enhancing efficiency and cooperation between government agencies and maritime companies, the system offers improved capabilities for search and rescue services, and facilitates economic growth.

Additionally, the system enables integration of maritime transportation of goods and passengers through Algerian ports, in compliance with international maritime traffic and security regulations, such as IALA, IMO and ISPS.
